Drew – Florida’s CMN 2016 Champion
Florida’s CMN 2016 Champion
The Sacred Heart Foundation is proud to announce that 14-year-old, Drew Barefield, has been named Florida’s 2016 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion. Throughout this year, Drew and his family will help raise funds and awareness for the millions of children treated each year at a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, and the thousands of children treated each year at The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart.
Drew was named the 2016 Champion for the state due to his remarkable medical story and passion for advocating on behalf of children’s hospitals. He survived multiple traumatic injuries from a boating accident. He was hospitalized for 75 days and underwent 13 surgeries. In spite of his own medical challenges, he maintained a positive “can-do” attitude and showed a genuine concern for other pediatric patients during his treatment.
Drew inspires others with his great outlook on life and draws from his faith to understand his situation. “Since God saved me, says Drew, I know he has a purpose for me, and I can’t wait to find out what that purpose is.”
Along with other CMNH State Champion delegates, Drew and his family will travel to Washington, D.C., and Orlando later this year to meet with media and highlight the vital work taking place at Children’s Hospitals.
